Is a title lock worth it on vacant land? It won't stop a fraudulent transfer.
A title lock service monitors deed activity and notifies you after a change appears. It is not title insurance, and it does not actually stop someone from attempting a fraudulent transfer. In a 2023 ALTA survey, 85% of title companies that encountered seller impersonation named vacant land as a targeted property type. What helps: check the ownership record on your parcel yourself, and use a free recording alert where your county offers one.
